Nagpur: In a major success under its ongoing passenger security and crime prevention initiative, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway's Nagpur Division apprehended two alleged mobile phone thieves at Nagpur Railway Station and recovered stolen mobile phones from their possession. The accused were later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Nagpur, for further legal action.

According to RPF officials, the first arrest was made on June 7, 2026, during routine patrolling and surveillance by the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS) at Nagpur Railway Station. The team noticed a suspicious individual on Platform No. 8 and intercepted him for questioning. The suspect was identified as Santoshram Sajeevan Yadav, a resident of Panna district in Madhya Pradesh.

During the search, RPF personnel recovered a Vivo mobile phone worth approximately ₹29,999 from his possession. When he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding ownership of the device, he was taken to the RPF Post at Nagpur for further interrogation.

During questioning, Yadav allegedly confessed to stealing the mobile phone from a passenger who was asleep on Platform No. 4. Subsequent verification revealed that a theft complaint regarding the device had already been registered with GRP Nagpur. Following the confirmation, the accused along with the recovered mobile phone was handed over to the GRP for further investigation.

In another operation conducted on the same day, the CPDS team apprehended a second suspect, identified as Vicky Singh, a resident of Bhopal district, Madhya Pradesh, from Platform No. 8. A Vivo mobile phone valued at around ₹7,000 was recovered from his possession. During interrogation, Singh reportedly admitted that he had stolen the mobile phone from a charging point while its owner was asleep nearby. Verification of the recovered device confirmed the theft, after which the accused and the seized mobile phone were handed over to GRP Nagpur for further legal proceedings.

Railway officials stated that the successful operations highlight the vigilance and proactive efforts of the RPF in safeguarding passengers and preventing crime within railway premises. The RPF Nagpur Division reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for railway passengers and appealed to travelers to remain alert while carrying valuables during their journey.

Passengers have also been advised to immediately report any suspicious activity, theft, or security-related concerns to RPF or GRP personnel stationed at railway stations to help maintain safety across the railway network.
