Nagpur: In a significant action against illegal liquor manufacturing, the Unit-01 Crime Branch of Nagpur City Police conducted a raid in the Hingna police station area and seized more than 2,300 litres of Mahua flower-based liquor and fermented wash on Wednesday. Two individuals have been booked under Sections 65(E) and 65(F) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act in connection with the case.

The operation was carried out at around 5:45 a.m. on June 10, 2026, at Chandrapur Rethi village under Gram Panchayat Peth in the Hingna police station jurisdiction. Acting on credible information that an illegal distillation unit was being operated at the location, the Crime Branch team rushed to the spot and conducted a raid in the presence of independent witnesses.

During the search, police found approximately 2,200 litres of fermented Mahua flower wash, which was being used as raw material for the production of country liquor. The team also recovered around 120 litres of illegally distilled Mahua liquor, along with a filtration sieve and three large metal distillation vessels used in the manufacturing process. The total value of the seized material has been estimated at ₹1.47 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Deepak Rambhau Pawar (40) and Dnyaneshwar Shriram Marwadi (45), both residents of Chandrapur Rethi village in the Hingna area. Police said the two were allegedly involved in the production of illicit liquor using Mahua flowers.

As the large quantity of fermented wash could not be transported from the site, it was destroyed on the spot following due procedure and under the directions of senior police officers. The plastic drums used for storing the fermented material were also disposed of in a manner that would prevent their future use in illegal liquor production.

Following the raid, a case was registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. The accused, along with the seized articles, were handed over to Hingna Police Station for further investigation and legal action.

The operation was carried out by a team comprising Police Inspector Prashant Thaware, GPSI Om Prakash Kothe, Head Constable Ravindra Ahir, and police personnel Sushant Solanke, Nitin Wasnik, Yogesh Wasnik, Sharad Chambhare, Nitin Bopulkar, and Mangesh Borkute. Nagpur City Police said such actions against illegal liquor manufacturing and distribution activities will continue to ensure strict enforcement of prohibition laws across the district.
