Nagpur Reports Two Murders Within Hours on Sunday Night

Nagpur: The city witnessed two back-to-back murder cases within just a few hours on Sunday night, raising serious concerns over public safety in the city. In both incidents, police acted swiftly and arrested the accused, while investigations continue.


In the first case, 26-year-old Harshal Anil Saudagar, a resident of Lakadganj, was brutally stabbed to death at Gujri Chowk, near Old Mangalwari, reportedly due to an old enmity. The incident occurred between 11:45 pm on July 27 and 12:01 am on July 28.


According to the FIR registered at Lakadganj Police Station, four accused —


  1. Prajwal alias Farukh Namdev Kanarkar (24),
  2. Prajwal alias Pajju Sudhakar Dorle (24),
  3. Vaibhav alias Condom Hiramn Hedau (28), and
  4. Rahul alias Dadya Dashrath Shete (33) allegedly assaulted the victim with sharp weapons after an argument turned violent.


Based on the complaint filed by Harshal’s uncle, Sudhir Saudagar (50), the police registered a case under Section 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A joint team from Lakadganj Police, Crime Branch’s Chain Snatching Cell, and Housebreaking Unit apprehended all four accused within hours. Further investigations are underway.


In another unrelated incident reported between 9 pm and 9:30 pm on July 27, 36-year-old Amol Paikuji Bankar died after a drunken brawl turned fatal near the Metro Station at Cotton Market, under Ganeshpeth Police Station limits.


The accused, Shwetambar alias Mooluk Duryodhan Meshram (42), a resident of Nehru Nagar slums, allegedly got into an argument with the victim over alcohol. According to police, the altercation escalated, and the accused reportedly pushed Amol, causing him to fall and injure his head.


After Amol started bleeding, the accused is said to have instructed a known associate named Satish to take him to the hospital. However, by the time Amol was brought to Mayo Hospital, doctors declared him dead.


Acting on a complaint by the victim’s cousin, Akshay Shankar Bankar (31), police registered an FIR under Section 105 of the BNS. The accused was taken into custody promptly, and further inquiry is ongoing.
