Nagpur: In a swift operation, the squad of Crime Branch Unit 4 apprehended a jail inmate from Nagpur Central Jail who had escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital under the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station.
The accused, identified as Harsh Mahendra Ramteke (23), a resident of Gautam Buddha Ward, Khairlanji Road, Tirora, District Gondia, had been admitted to GMCH, Ward No. 36, for medical treatment under police surveillance. On May 18, 2025, around 1:40 am, he managed to flee from lawful custody, prompting Ajni Police to register an offence under Section 262 of the BNS and launch a manhunt.
Acting on a tip-off from a reliable informant, officials of Crime Branch Unit 4 received information that the absconding accused was spotted near Dighori Chowk, under Daddanpool Bridge, in front of Route 49 Bar & Restaurant. He was seen riding a Honda Shine motorcycle and wearing a black full-sleeve t-shirt.
The team immediately laid a trap at the said location and successfully apprehended Harsh Ramteke. During interrogation, he confessed that the motorcycle in his possession was stolen from the MIDC Police Station limits—specifically, from outside a house in Sasane Layout, Jaitala, Nagpur.
