Nagpur: As petrol and diesel prices continue to soar, electric vehicles (EVs) are fast emerging as a preferred alternative for many vehicle owners. Although the initial response to EVs was lukewarm, the last three years have witnessed a sharp rise in their numbers. In response to this growing demand, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has significantly expanded the network of EV charging stations across its Nagpur division.
Currently, Nagpur district has 118 operational EV charging stations, while Wardha district boasts 22 such facilities, providing a major relief to EV users and easing their range anxiety. While two-wheelers and four-wheelers can be charged at home using domestic electricity connections, the rise in fast-charging stations allows for quicker top-ups—especially beneficial for long-distance travel.
MSEDCL Appointed as Nodal Agency for EV Infrastructure:
Recognizing the importance of clean transportation, the Maharashtra government has declared MSEDCL as the nodal agency for providing EV charging infrastructure. The state has also unveiled a dedicated EV policy to support this initiative. Pollution-prone cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nashik are receiving priority electricity connections for charging stations based on demand. MSEDCL is offering complete technical assistance for the installation and maintenance of these stations.
MSEDCL not only sets up its own charging stations but also supports private setups, facilitates the use of mobile apps for charging services, and assists the government in EV-related policy decisions. To simplify the process, MSEDCL has launched a dedicated website for those interested in establishing charging stations. Additionally, the company’s mobile app ‘PowerUp EV’ allows users to locate the nearest charging station and access services conveniently.
