Nagpur: In a shocking incident in Nagpur, a 70-year-old man died after being struck on the head by a wooden rafter allegedly thrown from a building under construction. The incident occurred in the Old Futala Vasti area and came to light through CCTV footage, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The deceased, identified as Sukhdev Baliram Asawale, was found in a critical condition outside a house in Old Futala Vasti on May 4 around 12:30 pm. He was immediately taken to Icon Hospital and later shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, Asawale succumbed to his injuries on May 9.

Initially, the Ambazari Police registered an accidental death report (ADR). However, during investigation, police discovered that construction work was ongoing at a nearby building. CCTV footage from the site revealed that a man threw a wooden rafter from the top of the building, which hit Asawale directly on the head.

The accused has been identified as Sagar Premchand Patil (33), a resident of Mahurzari, Kalmeshwar. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s son, Nishant Sukhdev Asawale (41), the Ambazari Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Patil was apprehended shortly after.

The incident has sparked serious concerns over safety negligence at construction sites in residential areas. Authorities have urged builders and workers to follow proper safety protocols to prevent such tragedies.
