Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Ruling Party Leader Assume Office in Nagpur; Resolve to Build ‘Developed Nagpur’

Nagpur: Newly elected Mayor Neeta Thakre, Deputy Mayor Leelatai Hathibed, and Ruling Party Leader in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Narendra (Balya) Borkar formally assumed charge on Sunday following a grand ceremony held at the NMC headquarters on Monday.


The charge-assumption programme took place at the administrative building of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation in the presence of Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Several dignitaries, including MLAs Krishna Khopde and Mohan Mate, former Mayor and BJP Nagpur City President Dayashankar Tiwari, former MP Ajay Sancheti, Chairman of the State Safai Karmachari Welfare Board Satish Dagor, and former MLAs Anil Sole, Vikas Kumbhare and Dr. Milind Mane, were present.


Additional Municipal Commissioners Vandana Pant and Vaishnavi B., along with BJP leaders Sanjay Bhende, Bunty Kukde, Jayprakash Gupta, Rajesh Bagdi and Vicky Kukreja, also attended the event. Former Mayors Archana Dehankar and Mayatai Evanate, former Standing Committee Chairman Pintu Jhalke, newly elected corporators, BJP office-bearers and party workers were present in large numbers.


Addressing the gathering, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule urged the newly elected corporators to remain loyal to the voters and work with dedication. He said Nagpur is steadily progressing under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and appealed to all elected representatives to pledge towards transforming the city into a ‘Developed Nagpur by 2047’.


Mayor Neeta Thakre, in her address, said the mayoral post comes with immense responsibility towards public development. She assured that the trust reposed by citizens through the electoral process would be upheld. She added that efforts would be made to give new momentum to Nagpur’s development under the guidance of CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.


Ruling Party Leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar stated that coordinated efforts with elected representatives and the civic administration would be undertaken to accelerate city development.


Earlier, Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant welcomed Mayor Neeta Thakre, while Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B. welcomed Deputy Mayor Leelatai Hathibed by presenting bouquets. Deputy Commissioner Nirbhay Jain welcomed Ruling Party Leader Narendra Borkar. Speeches were also delivered by MLAs Krishna Khopde, Mohan Mate and former MP Ajay Sancheti.


The programme was conducted by Public Relations Officer Manish Soni, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Corporator Shrikant Aaglave. Following the welcome ceremony at the new administrative building, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Ruling Party Leader formally took charge in their respective chambers.


Supporters and party workers greeted the newly elected office-bearers with flower bouquets, bursting of firecrackers and drumbeats, creating a celebratory atmosphere at the NMC headquarters.
