Nagpur: A team from Crime Branch Unit 5 apprehended a man in possession of a deadly firearm, along with ammunition, during a raid conducted on Tuesday, September in the Nandanvan area. The accused, identified as 37-year-old Shilwant Bhagwanji Sontakke, a resident of Padole Nagar, was caught after police received a tip-off from a reliable informant.
Acting on the information, the police conducted a search of Sontakke’s residence in the presence of witnesses. During the search, they found a lethal firearm, a steel magazine, and two live rounds hidden in an old bag in the house. The total value of the recovered items, including the mobile phone seized from the accused, is estimated to be ₹81,200.
Sontakke was taken into custody for violating the prohibition order and being in possession of an illegal firearm. Based on a complaint filed by Police Sub-Inspector Rajendra Taklikar, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 3/25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested and handed over to the Nandanvan police for further legal action.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Mankikar and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil. The team involved in the raid included Police Inspector Rahul Shire, Police Sub-Inspector Rajesh Lohi, Police Sub-Inspector Rajendra Taklikar, and personnel Pravin Bhagat, Ganesh Thakre, Yogesh Mahajan, Vishal Nagbhid, Amol Bhakte, and Sangita Nikhade.
