Nagpur: Following the recent incident in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, a war-like situation has emerged along the borders. In such scenarios, while the military is responsible for border protection, the police force plays a critical role in maintaining internal security. Accordingly, Nagpur City Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal organized route marches in various parts of the city.
The police force must be ready to respond to emergencies and sudden law and order situations—be it day or night. As part of this preparedness, the Commissioner arranged the route marches to ensure that officers and personnel are aware of the current scenario and are ready to face future challenges.
On 10th May 2025, at 3:30 a.m., route marches were conducted in five key areas of the city: Deekshabhoomi, Raj Bhavan, Badkas Chowk, Kamptee, and Sakkardara. These marches were held in the presence of senior police officials. Around 500 officers and 2,500 personnel participated, including Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners, Inspectors, RCP, QRT, special squads, control room, police headquarters, special branch, crime branch, economic offenses wing, and the traffic department.
Additional Commissioners were appointed to supervise each location, while Deputy Commissioners were entrusted with planning and preparation. For the first time in years, such a route march was held at 3:30 a.m. in the city’s police history. The Commissioner himself was present at Badkas Chowk at 4:00 a.m., where he initiated the route march that followed a route through Keshav T Point – Hedgewar Bhavan – back to Badkas Chowk – Mahal Chowk – Apsara Chowk – Keshavdwar – Dr. Hedgewar Memorial – Vateshwar Temple – Bhat Auditorium – Apsara Chowk – Reshimbagh Ground, where it concluded at 5:30 a.m.
During the march, the Commissioner conducted close monitoring and gave instructions to subordinates, emphasizing that police personnel must be fully equipped with batons and helmets and be mentally and physically prepared. Vigilance near vital installations was emphasized. Foot patrols, mobile units, and evening special patrols are to be intensified. Intelligence gathering at crowded places—such as Mahal, Sitabuldi, mega malls, and public spaces—must be strengthened. Suspicious activity should be immediately reported to senior officers. Inspections of hotels, lodges, and roadside eateries should be carried out, along with vehicle checks. BDDS inspections, removal of unauthorized vehicles and stalls, and increased alertness in sensitive areas were stressed.
The Commissioner gave detailed instructions on various aspects during the march: helmets, gas parties, BD squads, traffic points, ambulances, fire safety, barricades, debris removal staff, roads, entry and exit points of vital installations, electric poles and wiring, coordination with municipal teams and other departments, teamwork, distribution of responsibilities, first-aid kits, JCBs, watch towers, shelter homes, hiding spots, wireless communication, dark spots, open grounds, car parking areas, high-rise buildings, ongoing road work, searchlights, and megaphones.
After the route march concluded at Reshimbagh Ground, the Commissioner proceeded to the Sanvidhaan Chowk and the Vidhan Bhavan periphery in the Bardi area for foot patrolling. There, he closely inspected footpaths, barricades, school entrances, religious places, squares, and access points.
He clarified that such drills are being conducted at various places throughout the city, ensuring coverage of all vital installations. It’s important this information reaches all personnel. This was a preparedness exercise to assess how ready we are in emergencies. He also directed that maximum manpower should be ready during the day and the night.
Considering the situation in North and Northwest India, the police must be prepared as first responders. Emphasis was also laid on motorcycle and car patrolling, collecting information on vehicle drivers, combating rumors, and monitoring social media. These directives were issued by the Commissioner.
Present during the route march were Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Nisar Tamboli, Additional Commissioners Sanjay Patil (Crime), Dr. Shivaji Bodke, Pramod Shewale, DCPs Lohit Matani, Niketan Kadam, Rashmita Rao, Mehak Swami, Shweta Khedkar, Rahul Madane, along with all Assistant Commissioners and Senior Police Inspectors.
