Nagpur: The Tehsil Police have apprehended an accused involved in an extortion case in the Yashodhara Nagar area near the Unani Hospital late at night on May 9, Friday.
According to the police, the complainant, Shahnaaz Khan (54), a resident of Bharat Town, Yerkhada, was standing and speaking with her brother after dinner when a maxi driver parked his vehicle improperly. When the complainant asked the driver to move the vehicle to avoid blocking the road, he abused her. In response, her brother slapped the driver.
The maxi driver left but soon returned with two accomplices. All three abused the complainant and her brother. The primary accused, identified as Ali Shah Shaukat Shah (29), a resident near Gareeb Nawaz Masjid, pulled out a knife and threatened the complainant, saying, “You don’t know who I am. My name is Ali. Give me Rs 5,000 or I’ll kill you right here.” He then physically assaulted her, causing injuries to both knees.
Fortunately, a patrolling police team arrived at the scene, prompting two of the accused to flee. The police apprehended the main accused, Ali Shah, and rushed the injured woman for treatment.
Based on the complaint, Sub-Inspector Madewar has registered a case under BNS sections 308(4), 126(2), 351(3), 296, 115(2), and 3(5) at Tehsil Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
