Nagpur: Continuing its intensified crackdown against narcotics under the “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite, Build a Drug-Free Society” campaign initiated by Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, the Crime Branch Unit 04 arrested a man allegedly possessing MD (Mephedrone) powder worth ₹1.10 lakh in Nandanvan area.
According to police officials, the action was carried out during the Anti-Narcotics Awareness Weekcampaign between 12:20 am and 1:55 am on June 22, 2026.
Crime Branch Unit 04 officers were conducting patrols in the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Stationwhen they noticed a suspicious individual near NMC Ground on Pandhan Road, Wathoda Layout. The suspect was stopped and questioned in the presence of witnesses.
The accused identified himself as Rizwan Sheikh alias Shakeel Sheikh (24), resident of Hasanbagh, near Kabristan, Third Lane, Nandanvan, Nagpur.
Following due procedure under the NDPS Act, police conducted a search and recovered 11 grams of MD powder valued at approximately ₹1,10,000 from his possession.
Police also seized:
- Cash: ₹6,200
- One mobile phone
- MD powder
The total value of seized material was estimated at ₹1,26,200.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that he had procured the contraband with assistance from his associate Soheb alias Sobu (25), resident of Hasanbagh, Nagpur, who is currently absconding.
Police stated that the accused was allegedly carrying the narcotic substance for illegal sale and personal financial gain.
A case has been registered at Nandanvan Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29. The accused has been arrested and handed over to Nandanvan Police for further investigation. Search operations are underway to trace the wanted accomplice.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior officials of Nagpur Police and executed by officers and personnel of Crime Branch Unit 04.
