Bajaj Nagar Police Solve ₹30,000 Footpath Vendor Theft Within 12 Hours, Accused Arrested

Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police in Nagpur arrested a 20-year-old man and solved a theft case within 12 hours of the incident, recovering stolen cash and seizing assets worth ₹1 lakh.


According to police, the complainant, Phukaji Kanhaji Vagaria (65), originally from Rajasthan and currently residing on the footpath beneath Shankar Nagar Chowk Metro Station in Nagpur, earns his livelihood by selling toys.


As per the complaint, on June 19, 2026, Vagaria returned after work at around 10 pm and handed over the day’s earnings of ₹30,000 in cash to his wife. The money was wrapped carefully and kept inside a white bag under a blanket. The couple later slept on the footpath.


The next morning, on June 20 at around 5:30 am, Vagaria’s wife raised an alarm after discovering that the cash was missing. Despite searching the bag and surrounding area thoroughly, the money could not be found. The complainant then suspected that an unknown thief had stolen the amount.


Based on the complaint, Bajaj Nagar Police registered Crime No. 271/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and worked on information received from confidential sources. The investigation led officers to identify the accused as Sagar Narendra Tiwari (20), resident of Plot No. 08, Prabhunagar, Jaitala, under MIDC Police Station limits, Nagpur.


Police gathered information that the accused operated a fruit cart near Sambhaji Chowk, Pratap Nagar, Nagpur. Acting on the lead, the police team reached the spot and detained him.


During questioning at Bajaj Nagar Police Station, the accused allegedly confessed to stealing the ₹30,000 cash. Police subsequently seized a Realme mobile phone worth ₹10,000 and a blue Honda Activa scooter worth ₹60,000, allegedly used in connection with the offence.


The total seized property is valued at ₹1 lakh.


Police stated that the case was cracked and action initiated within 12 hours of the crime being reported.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police S Rushikesh Reddy (Zone 01), ACP Gurav of Sonegaon Division, Senior Police Inspector C.B. Chauhan, and PSI (Crime) Y.B. Shinde of Bajaj Nagar Police Station.


The investigation team included PSI Deepak Pawar, Head Constables Satish Thakur and Zahid Ansari, Constable Amol Mahalle, Head Constable Nitesh Meshram, and Police Personnel Mangesh Dahake, Yogeshwar Gaikwad, and Dnyaneshwar Karve.


Further investigation is underway.
