Nagpur: The water level in Ambazari Lake has reached a critical point, standing at 316.20 meters, just 0.04 meters shy of the overflow mark of 316.24 meters, following incessant rain on Saturday As the lake approaches this threshold, city authorities have taken swift action to avert potential flooding and disruption.

In response to the looming threat, the administration has deployed four pumps and opened two outlets to drain excess water from Ambazari Lake. This preemptive measure aims to prevent a repeat of last year's chaos, when the lake overflowed, causing significant damage to nearby areas. The flooding was exacerbated by unauthorized constructions around the lakeside, an issue highlighted by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.

The court had strongly criticized the Nagpur administration for its handling of the situation last year, pointing out the negligence that led to widespread havoc. Determined to avoid a similar scenario, the administration is now actively working to manage the water levels and ensure the safety of the surrounding communities.

With the lake's water level precariously close to the overflow point, the situation remains tense, but the administration's efforts offer hope for a more controlled and less disruptive outcome this year.
