Nagpur: In a bizarre theft case, a youth allegedly stole a television set worth ₹15,000 from an OYO hotel in the MIDC area after booking a room under false pretenses.

The accused has been identified as Romanch Rangari, a former waiter at Renuka OYO Hotel. According to police, the incident took place on September 3 evening, when Romanch visited the hotel and booked a room, telling staff that his girlfriend was about to arrive.

Since the receptionist recognized him from his previous employment, no suspicion was raised. However, while the receptionist stepped away to switch on the parking lights, Romanch allegedly removed a TV from the room and fled the premises.

The stolen television is estimated to be worth around ₹15,000. Acting on a complaint, MIDC Police registered a case of theft and launched a search for the accused.

Authorities said that despite his familiarity with the hotel staff, the accused misused their trust to execute the crime. Police teams are now tracing his whereabouts, and further investigation is underway.
