Woman Witness Threatened, Abused and Harassed Inside Nagpur High Court Premises; Man Booked

Nagpur: A 34-year-old woman has allegedly been threatened, verbally abused and harassed inside the Nagpur High Court premises after she appeared as a witness in a case against the accused, police said.


According to the complaint, the incident occurred on August 25, 2026, between 2.45 pm and 4 pmin the High Court premises in Nagpur. The woman had come to the court to testify in a case filed by her friend, Gaurav Sharma (43), a resident of Beltarodi, against the accused.


The complainant was sitting on a bench when the accused, identified as Rakesh Sukhdev Modipal (38), a resident of Binaki Mangalwari, Nagpur, allegedly came and sat beside her. He allegedly pressed his foot against her leg and warned her not to testify in the case, threatening to “see what happens” if she did.


The accused also allegedly hurled obscene abuses at the woman, causing her distress and embarrassment.


Based on her complaint, Sadar police registered a case on September 1 at around 8.05 pm under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to assault/criminal force against a woman, intentional insult and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is underway.
