Nagpur: A 28-year-old man has been booked by Cyber Police in Nagpur for allegedly threatening a woman with the circulation of her old and private photographs and demanding ₹5 lakh as extortion.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Anil Singh Porte (28), and the woman were previously friends and had been in a relationship for some time. The woman later ended the relationship, citing the accused’s alleged behaviour and character, and subsequently married another person.
Police said that between April 5, 2023 and August 28, 2026, the accused allegedly threatened the woman that he would circulate her old photographs and demanded ₹5 lakh from her.
He allegedly also took control of her Instagram account and uploaded private photographs of the woman on the account, threatening to circulate them and defame her, according to the complaint.
The alleged incident came to light after the woman approached the police. Cyber Police registered an FIR on September 1, 2026, at around 8.48 pm.
The accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 78, 356 and 351(2), 308(2), along with Sections 66(C), 66(D) and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Further investigation is underway.
