Nagpur: Lakadganj police arrested a 35-year-old man after allegedly recovering two live commercial detonators, 12 metres of lead-gauge detonator wire and a mobile phone from his possession in Nagpur.

The accused has been identified as Rajendra Ramlal Vishwakarma (35), a resident of Khursatipur in Balod district, Chhattisgarh. He was arrested at around 1.49 am on September 2.

According to police, the case came to light on September 1 when Dnyaneshwar Kamlesh Parate (32), a resident of Yashodharanagar, brought Vishwakarma to Lakadganj police station, alleging that he was involved in selling stolen mobile phones. Police reportedly found his movements suspicious and searched him.

During the search, police allegedly recovered two live commercial detonators, 12 metres of lead-gauge wire and an ITEL mobile phone valued at around ₹7,000.

During questioning, Vishwakarma allegedly told police that he had been working at the Mo Inroka coal mines in Warora, Chandrapur. He allegedly claimed that an agent had not paid him his wages, following which he stole the recovered material.

Lakadganj police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Explosive Substances Act, Explosives Act and BNS. Police are investigating the source of the detonators and wire and whether the accused was involved in any other thefts.
