Nagpur: In a daring case of bank fraud, two unidentified men allegedly stole a bearer cheque from the counter of a Bank of Baroda branch at Medical Square and later encashed it by producing a forged Aadhaar card at another branch, making away with ₹6 lakh.

The case has been registered at Imamwada Police Station on the complaint of Vishal Mahadeorao Awathare (41), Manager of the Bank of Baroda’s Medical Square branch. He resides at Royal Heights, New Prerna Nagar, Katol Road, Nagpur.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on July 15, 2026, between 11.40 am and 2.30 pm. A customer had submitted a bearer cheque (No. 0022) for deposit at the Medical Square branch. During this period, two unidentified accused allegedly stole the cheque from the bank counter without anyone noticing.

The accused then reached the Bank of Baroda, Sitabuldi branch, where they allegedly presented a fake Aadhaar card impersonating the genuine customer and successfully encashed the cheque, withdrawing ₹6 lakh in cash.

The fraudulent withdrawal caused financial loss to both the bank and the customer who had deposited the cheque.

Based on the bank manager’s complaint, Imamwada Police have registered a case against two unidentified accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cheating, theft, forgery, using forged documents as genuine, personation and criminal conspiracy. Further investigation is underway to identify and trace the accused.
