Nagpur: A 31-year-old doctor from Nagpur was allegedly duped of ₹46.16 lakh by cyber fraudsters who lured him into a fake share market investment scheme through a YouTube advertisement and later operated via a WhatsApp group, police said.
The victim, Dr. Sujit Ashok Meshram (31), a resident of Survey Layout, Nagpur, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police Station after allegedly falling prey to the online investment fraud between July 15 and July 19, 2026.
According to the complaint, Dr. Meshram came across an advertisement related to share market investments while watching YouTube. After registering through the advertisement, he received a WhatsApp message from a person identifying himself as Hemant Oswal, who claimed to be an Assistant Research and Analysis executive.
The complainant was subsequently contacted by two more individuals—Nishchan Jain, who introduced himself as a Senior Research and Analysis executive, and Subhi Agrawal, who also claimed to be an Assistant Research and Analysis executive. The accused allegedly convinced the doctor that they represented Magnum Equity Broking Ltd and added him to a WhatsApp group named “A-1176 Magnum Equity Securities Chat Group.”
The fraudsters allegedly provided stock market tips and promised exceptionally high returns on investments. Believing their claims, Dr. Meshram transferred a total of ₹46.16 lakh from his Central Bank of India, Pawani Branch (Bhandara) account and HDFC Bank, Bhandara account to bank accounts specified by the accused.
When the promised returns failed to materialise and he realised he had been cheated, the doctor approached the Cyber Police.
Based on his complaint, the Cyber Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and common intention, along with Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. The investigation is underway to identify and trace the accused involved in the online investment fraud.
