Nagpur: A 52-year-old woman and her 33-year-old son, both reportedly suffering from cancer, allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison at their residence in Nagpur’s Mahal area. Police recovered a suicide note from the house and have registered an accidental death case.
The deceased have been identified as Abhaya Ananta Khankhoje (52) and her son Advait Ananta Khankhoje (33), residents of Flat No. 001, Ground Floor, Shri Guru Mauli Apartment, under the Kotwali Police Station limits.
According to the police, the mother and son allegedly consumed poison in the bedroom of their house before 9.30 pm on July 20, 2026. Preliminary investigation suggests that both had been battling cancer for a prolonged period and were distressed due to their illness.
The incident came to light after a report was lodged by Abhishek Vilasrao Kalamkar (36), a resident of Chitnis Wada, Mahal, who works as a Ganesh idol maker.
Police said a suicide note was found at the spot, in which the deceased are believed to have mentioned the reasons behind their extreme step. The contents of the note are being examined as part of the investigation.
Based on the information received, Kotwali Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR)under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), corresponding to the inquest proceedings under the law. Further investigation is underway.
