Two Arrested for Killing Man with Cement Block Near Ram Jhula, Third Accused Absconding

Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, Tehsil Police in have arrested two accused in connection with the brutal murder of an unidentified man near Ram Jhula earlier this month. The incident had shocked locals after the victim was found in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.


According to police, the crime occurred before 11 am on January 21, 2026, under the iron staircase leading down from Ram Jhula bridge near Star Garage in the Tehsil area. An unidentified man, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, was discovered unconscious with grievous injuries to his head and face. He was described as having a dark complexion, medium build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with black hair, a long face, small eyes, and an untrimmed beard. He was wearing a red T-shirt, green jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes. The victim also had the letters “RS” tattooed on his right hand and the name “Ramesh” tattooed in English on the right side of his neck.


Police said an unknown assailant had attacked the man with a cement block with the intention to kill, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. Based on a complaint lodged by Umar Khan Mubarak Ali Khan (36), a resident of Kabristan Road, Mominpura, Tehsil, Nagpur, a murder case was registered at Tehsil Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown persons.


During the investigation, police formed four special teams to identify the deceased and trace the accused. Using technical analysis and credible intelligence inputs, officers identified and arrested two suspects.


The arrested accused have been identified as:


  1. Santaram Sahedlal Yadav (32), a resident of Kondhali Khurde (Chhoti Kondhali), Yadav Vasti, Post Kondhali Kala, under Poama Police Station limits, Umred tehsil, Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh. He was apprehended from Itwari Railway Station, Nagpur.
  2. Raghunath alias Raja Shuddhodhan Sonawane (Vishwakarma) (35), a resident of Lamta, Changutola, Lamta tehsil, under Changutola Police Station, Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh. He was taken into custody from Bhilgaon, Nagpur.



During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. Police revealed that the deceased, both arrested accused, and another absconding accomplice identified as Anil Waghate alias Totla (around 30–35 years old) had consumed alcohol together before the incident. A quarrel broke out between them after the victim allegedly refused to give them a bottle of water. The argument escalated, and the three accused jointly assaulted the victim with a cement block, leading to his death.


The arrested accused have been remanded to police custody by the court. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the third accused, while further investigation is in progress.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Rahul Madane, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali Division) Anita More, and Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mendhe of Tehsil Police Station, PSI Rasul Sheikh along with a dedicated team of officers and staff.
