Nagpur: Heavy rains have significantly impacted the supply of vegetables, leading to fluctuating prices. While leafy vegetables like fenugreek, green chili, coriander, and cluster beans have seen a price hike, tomato prices have sharply dropped from ₹100 per kg to ₹50 per kg after a three-week surge.
In the first and second week of July, disruptions in supply from other states due to heavy rains led to soaring vegetable prices. However, the resumption of supply in September is expected to bring down prices of all types of vegetables significantly.
Nagpur markets typically receive tomatoes from Bengaluru, Buldhana, Sangamner, and the outskirts of Nagpur. As a result, their prices were pegged at ₹100 to ₹110 per kg. With the increased supply from Saturday, prices have now fallen to ₹50 per kg.
Farmer Sadashiv Ambatkar noted that vegetables like tomatoes and coriander fetched good prices until last week but have since dropped by about 50 percent.
