Nagpur: Shantinagar Police on Monday registered a case against six individuals after raiding an illegal gambling setup operating inside the residence of Prakash Malik at Sweeper Colony, Lalganj, situated opposite the Zone Office in Sataranjipura.
The police team received reliable information between 1:55 PM and 3:05 PM that gambling activities were being conducted for monetary gain at the said location. Acting swiftly, a raid was conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, during which officers found several men placing bets on playing cards.
The accused have been identified as Khushal Punaji Barapatre (29), resident of Bastarwari, behind Shitala Mata Mandir, Shantinagar; Sanjay Sitaram Parate (42), resident of Plot No. 513/A, behind Pratibha High School, near Sharda Mata Mandir, Shantinagar; Jitlal Meghuram Shahu (30), resident of Plot No. 163, Vaishnodevi Nagar, behind Shivshakti Beer Bar, Kalmana; Saket Bhanu Shahu (31), tenant at Plot No. 56, Gulshan Nagar, Udiya Wasti, Kalmana; Chandrashekhar Shankar Dekate (36), resident of Lalganj Jhade Chowk, Shantinagar; and Prakash Kailas Malik (36), resident of Sweeper Colony, Lalganj, Sataranjipura.
Police seized a total of ₹24,895, which included ₹3,470 in cash, five mobile phones, playing cards and other gambling materials. A case has been registered at Shantinagar Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP Rahul Madane (Zone 3) and ACP Shivprasad Parve (Lakadganj Division), and executed by PI Gajanan Tamte, API Kuldeep Gadam, PSI Rajesh Tapre, HC Santosh, HC Dinesh, PC Nikhil and Woman PC Ankita. Further investigation is underway.
