Nagpur: In a major crackdown on the illegal transportation of narcotic substances through the railway network, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Nagpur, apprehended a youth carrying approximately 12.35 kilograms of suspected narcotic substance at Nagpur Railway Station.

The operation was conducted by the Crime Intelligence Branch of RPF Nagpur as part of routine surveillance and crime prevention activities near Platform No. 8 at the Ajni-end Foot Over Bridge.

According to officials, RPF personnel noticed a young man carrying a sea-green trolley bag and stopped him on suspicion. During questioning, he allegedly failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the contents of the luggage, prompting a detailed inspection.

During the search, officials discovered six packets wrapped in khaki adhesive tape concealed inside the trolley bag. To verify suspicion, RPF’s trained narcotics detection dog “Prince” was brought to the location and reportedly gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotic substances.

Following standard procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses and railway officials, the bag was examined further.

The individual was identified as Deepak, a resident of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Railway officials said a travel ticket recovered from his possession indicated he was travelling from Khariar Road to Surat.

The six seized packets reportedly contained a substance suspected to be a narcotic drug and emitted a strong characteristic odour. The total weight of the recovered material was found to be approximately 12.35 kg, with an estimated market value of around ₹2.47 lakh.

Officials said the seized material was properly sealed and confiscated as per procedure, and the entire operation was documented through photography and videography.

The accused and the seized substance were subsequently handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Nagpur, for further legal action under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

GRP Nagpur has registered a case and initiated further investigation.

RPF Nagpur stated that it continues to maintain strict vigilance across railway premises to prevent criminal and unlawful activities and ensure passenger safety.
