Nagpur: Old Kamptee Police arrested a man for allegedly creating panic in public while carrying a sharp weapon near Ruiganj Ground.
According to police, at around 11:10 pm on June 17, a police patrol team received information that a man was threatening passersby and creating disturbance near Sharma Desi Liquor Outlet at Ruiganj Ground, Kamptee.
Acting on the tip-off, police reached the spot and found a man matching the description holding a sharp iron knife and allegedly creating a disturbance.
With the help of staff, police detained and disarmed the accused. During questioning in the presence of witnesses, he identified himself as Shakeel Ahmed Imtiyaz Ahmed (39), resident near Champa Ashram, JN Road, Ruiganj Ground area, Kamptee, Nagpur.
Police seized the knife valued at approximately ₹250.
As the accused was allegedly carrying the weapon with intent to commit a cognizable offence and violated prohibitory orders, a case was registered on the complaint of Police Constable Madhukar Nikhade.
PSI Sagar Bhandari registered the offence under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
