Nagpur: Khaparkheda Police have registered a case against an unidentified motorcycle rider in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman.

Police said the incident occurred between 5:30 am and 6:00 am on June 18 on Koradi Road near AP Bar under Khaparkheda Police Station limits.

Victim Jijabai Krishnaji Gaurkhede (65), resident of Ward No. 4, Bhimnagar, Khaparkheda, was returning home on foot when an unidentified rider on a red-coloured two-wheeler allegedly drove at high speed in a rash and negligent manner and hit her from behind.

The collision caused severe injuries to her head and hand. She was immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.

Following a complaint by her son Sunil Krishnaji Gaurkhede (39), police personnel Gajanan Rajurkar registered an FIR against the unknown rider under Sections 281, 125(B), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 134 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Further investigation is in progress.
