Nagpur: In a decisive crackdown following the Valentine’s Day scuffle that triggered public outrage, Zone 2 Police have sealed Raasta Club in Shivaji Nagar for 15 days starting March 11. The action was taken after officials detected instances of underage drinking and violations related to parking and compliance norms during inspection.
The premises fall under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station. The sealing was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nityanand Jha, who had earlier initiated suo motu proceedings after a video of the brawl surfaced online.
Viral Video Sparked Probe
The controversy began when a physical altercation broke out between two groups during a Valentine’s Day celebration at Raasta. Footage of the incident showed chaos on the dance floor even as music continued to play, drawing criticism over crowd control and management response.
Notably, no formal complaint was filed immediately after the incident. However, once the viral clip reached senior officers of Nagpur Police, authorities took cognisance and sought an explanation from the management for failing to report the episode promptly, as mandated under law.
Violations Surface During Inspection
Subsequent inspection reportedly revealed underage patrons consuming alcohol and irregularities in parking arrangements, along with other compliance concerns. Based on these findings, police ordered the club’s closure for 15 days as a preventive and regulatory measure.
Renewed Scrutiny on Nightlife
The development has reignited debate over safety standards at late-night establishments in the city. The action draws parallels with the earlier sealing of Dabo – The Club and Kitchen for alleged violations during extended operations.
Authorities have reiterated that strict monitoring of nightlife venues will continue to ensure adherence to safety norms and legal provisions, amid growing public concern over security at party hotspots in Nagpur.
