Nagpur: As part of strict enforcement of election preparedness for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) General Elections 2025–26, police complaints have been submitted against three government school headmasters for allegedly refusing to accept election duty and training orders in the Dharampeth Zone. The complaints were placed before Ambazari Police Station following directions from the Election Authority.
According to official records, the individuals were appointed as polling officers in compliance with orders issued by the State Election Commission, Maharashtra, and the Municipal Commissioner-cum-Election Officer, NMC Nagpur. The appointment and training orders dated December 21, 2025, were dispatched to the officers at their registered residential addresses through departmental staff. However, the concerned employees reportedly declined to accept the orders, citing no valid justification.
The Election Authority has sought legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with disobedience of lawful orders issued by a competent public authority. The refusal has been described as dereliction of duty and a direct obstruction to election-related work.
The police complaints name Jayashri Rajesh Salame, headmistress from Shanti Nagar; D.G. Dharmik, headmaster from Ishwar Nagar on Ramna Maroti Road; and M.A. Shaikh, headmaster from the Civil Lines area. Sanitation inspectors Rohit Leader, Karansing Behunia and Omprakash Koche have been authorised by the concerned department to submit the complaints on behalf of the Election Officer.
Election officials have reiterated that polling duty is mandatory and warned that similar complaints will be filed against any officer or employee found neglecting election-related responsibilities, as such actions could disrupt the conduct of free and fair civic polls.
