Nagpur: A New Year’s Eve celebration ended in tragedy when a 21-year-old youth lost his life in a fatal road accident in the Ganeshpeth area of Nagpur late on Wednesday night. The incident occurred due to alleged rash and negligent riding of a two-wheeler.

The deceased has been identified as Anshul Sudhakar Gawande (21), a resident of Navkanya Nagar, Pardi. He was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by his friend Rahul Kishan Dhurve (22), when the accident occurred near Geetanjali Chowk on CA Road, opposite SBI, under Ganeshpeth police limits, around 10.30 pm on December 31, 2025.

Police said the motorcycle was being driven at high speed in a dangerous manner, causing Anshul to fall off and sustain critical injuries. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

Following a complaint by Anshul’s uncle Pradeep Gnaneshwar Ingole, Ganeshpeth Police registered a case against the rider under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation into the accident is ongoing.
