Nagpur: In a bid to rein in the growing concerns around late-night disturbances, unauthorised liquor service, and illegal hookah parlours, the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) of Zone 1 and Zone 2 have unveiled a comprehensive plan to intensify action against nightlife violations across the city.

DCP Zone 1 Rushikesh Reddy and DCP Zone 2 Nityanand Jha have been actively conducting meetings with residents, restaurant and club owners to identify problem areas and enforce compliance. DCP Reddy revealed that several businesses, including clubs and saoji restaurants, were found operating beyond permitted hours. He stated that notices have been issued, and direct instructions were given to proprietors to adhere strictly to operational guidelines.

In Zone 2, DCP Jha stated that after receiving inputs from beat marshals and local citizens, dedicated teams have been deployed to monitor illegal activities, especially unauthorised serving of liquor and drug consumption. He added that strict legal action will be taken under the Maharashtra Police Act and NDPS Act.

The police have also taken a strong stance on public nuisance and noise pollution. DCP Jha confirmed that several cafes and clubs in Zone 2 have already been warned for violating prescribed decibel levels. Offenders will be booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), especially for unlawful assembly or obstruction of public peace.

Both DCPs reiterated that the ongoing Operation Thunder, launched under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, will continue aggressively in both zones. Special emphasis is being laid on shutting down illegal hookah lounges and e-cigarette vendors, with action under COTPA, including sealing of premises and cancellation of licenses.

NH1 and Bakasur Restaurants Raided:

As part of the intensified crackdown, Zone 1 police raided NH1 and Bakasur restaurants under the Bajaj Nagar police station limits on Tuesday night. A large quantity of liquor was seized, and investigations revealed that patrons were being served alcohol without valid licences. The staff was also found permitting customers to consume alcohol on-site in violation of legal norms.

Strict Warning on ‘Bring Your Own Liquor’ Practice:

Raising concern over the rising trend of customers bringing their own alcohol to dhabas and saoji eateries, DCP Reddy clarified that such practices are in violation of State Excise rules. “No establishment is allowed to permit liquor consumption without a valid licence. If found in breach, legal proceedings will be initiated and licenses may be suspended,” he warned.
