Nagpur: In a dramatic twist reminiscent of the Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, where a man risks everything to help a mute Pakistani girl cross the border, a woman from Nagpur has allegedly crossed the Line of Control (LOC) into Pakistan—this time, under far more dangerous circumstances.

While tensions between India and Pakistan were peaking on May 10Sunita Satish Gatlewar (43), a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar under Kapil Nagar Police Station limits, is reported to have crossed into Pakistani territory. Her daring move, in the midst of heightened Indo-Pak hostilities, has shocked authorities and locals alike.

No Official Confirmation from Pakistan Yet

Although senior sources from the border region claim Sunita has been apprehended on the other side, there is no official confirmation from Pakistani authorities. Typically, such crossings prompt formal communication, but due to the ongoing volatile situation, both nations have remained tight-lipped.

Meanwhile, Kapil Nagar police, under the guidance of DCP Niketan Kadam, have launched a thorough investigation. A police team is preparing to travel to Kargil, where Sunita’s 12-year-old son, Inel, was found and is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

DCP Kadam confirmed he is personally monitoring the case and is in touch with his officers posted in Kargil, as well as officials from the welfare committee.

Family Clueless Until Police Visit:

Sunita’s mother, Nirmala Jamgade (60), had no idea her daughter had even left Nagpur. “On May 4, she told me she was going to buy clothes for Inel and never came back. I didn’t report her missing as I was undergoing treatment at Government Medical Hospital for a year,” she said.

Before leaving, Sunita had stocked the house with groceries and essentials for her ailing mother, suggesting that her departure was pre-planned.

Third Attempt to Cross Border:

This isn’t the first time Sunita attempted to cross into Pakistan. She had previously been intercepted by the Amritsar police in Attari, where a case was registered. This time, however, she reportedly succeeded, leaving behind her son at a hotel in Hundermaan, Kargil, before vanishing across the LOC.

Religious Connection Suspected:

Sources suggest Sunita had long been in contact with a Pakistani pastor, and her persistent attempts to cross the border may have been motivated by her desire to meet him. Some reports claim Pakistani locals saw her and alerted their authorities, leading to her detention—though no official statement has followed, likely due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

A Bajrangi Bhaijaan Story in Reverse?

While Bajrangi Bhaijaan showcased a man’s selfless mission to unite a child with her family across borders, Sunita’s journey seems to reflect a real-life version of that narrative—albeit cloaked in secrecy, risk, and controversy. With her son safely in Kargil and authorities scrambling for answers, this case remains one of the most bizarre and sensitive cross-border incidents in recent times.
