Nagpur Riots: 38-Year-Old Welder Succumbs to Injuries, First Casualty Reported

Nagpur: Irfan Ansari, a 38-year-old welder from Garib Nawaz Nagar, has become the first casualty of the recent riots in Mahal. Ansari succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, March 22, at Mayo Hospital, six days after being brutally assaulted near Geetanjali Chowk while on his way to Nagpur railway station.


According to sources, rioters intercepted Ansari and mercilessly thrashed him near the riot-hit area between Geetanjali Chowk and Hansapuri Khadan. Critically injured, he was later found on the road by police personnel, who rushed him to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to severe internal injuries.


A case has been registered at Tehsil police station, and one person has been apprehended so far. Police are actively investigating and searching for more suspects involved in the attack.


Ansari’s post-mortem was conducted at Mayo Hospital under tight security. Authorities have intensified security measures across Central Nagpur to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
