Nagpur: A 27-year-old man was brutally assaulted and later succumbed to injuries after allegedly being beaten over a minor altercation at a country liquor bar in Wadi here, on Wednesday, April 30. The Wadi police have registered a case of murder against five individuals involved in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Suraj Subhash Bhalavi, a resident of Sonba Nagar, near Buddha Vihar, Wadi.
According to the complaint lodged by his younger brother Saurabh Bhalavi (24), Suraj had gone to the Saire Desi Liquor Bar located on Khadgaon Road on Tuesday, April 29, around 8.30 pm. While consuming liquor, Suraj accidentally dropped and broke a glass, which allegedly enraged the staff at the bar.
The accused—identified as Vishal Divekar, Rohit Varkhade, Sandeep Chavan, Sunil Gote, Prabhakar Chintamani, and others—allegedly conspired and launched a violent attack on Suraj. They reportedly pushed him to the ground and assaulted him using fists and wooden sticks, inflicting serious injuries on his head, ribs, arms, and legs.
After the brutal attack, the assailants allegedly dragged the severely injured Suraj outside the bar and dumped him near a drainage channel adjacent to the Nagpuri Tadka Hotel.
Upon receiving information, the police and the complainant rushed Suraj to Mayo Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, and doctors declared him dead at around 4.30 am on April 30.
Based on Saurabh Bhalavi’s complaint, Wadi Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1), 189(2), 191(2), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). PSI Nikalje is conducting further investigation.
