Nagpur: A 31-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death in Kalamna Market area late Saturday night, June 21, following a confrontation with the accused. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Poonaram Waghmare, a welder by profession and resident of Chikhli Devasthan near Nagoba Mandir in Kalamna.
According to the FIR lodged at Kalamna Police Station, the incident occurred around 9:48 pm on the cement road near Shed No. 12 in the grain market of Kalamna, approximately one kilometre west of the police station. The police received information about the incident at around 10:00 pm, and the case was officially registered in the early hours of June 22.
The complaint was filed by the deceased’s elder brother, Deorao Poonaram Waghmare, aged 35. In his statement, he said he was resting at home when he received a call from Ravi informing him that a person named Kishor Thakre was attacking him with a knife in the market. Deorao rushed to the spot and found Ravi lying in a pool of blood on the cement road, with visible stab wounds on his body.
Another eyewitness, Nasir — a friend of the deceased — informed Deorao that Ravi had confronted Kishor Thakre for loitering in the grain market, which led to a verbal altercation. Enraged by the confrontation, the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ravi to death.
Based on the complaint, Kalamna Police registered an offence under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Crime No. 513/2025. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the murder weapon has not been recovered.
Senior officers including DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishal Kshirsagar, Senior Police Inspector Pravin Kale (Kalamna Police Station) and Inspector Sandeep Bua (Crime Branch Unit 5) visited the crime scene.
Investigations are currently underway under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Ajay Garje, who is both the registering and investigating officer. The situation in the area remains peaceful, and no preventive action was reported at the time of filing this report.
Police are actively searching for the absconding accused and further action is expected soon.
