Nagpur: Hingna police have registered a rape case against a 42-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a married woman repeatedly on the pretext of arranging a job for her and threatening to kill her and her son if she revealed the incidents.

The accused, identified as Lalit Vinayak Wanjari, a resident of Kanhaiyadoh in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district, was acquainted with the woman as both belonged to the same native village, according to the complaint.

The woman had reportedly returned to her parental home following a dispute with her husband. During a visit to a hospital in Saoner with her son, Wanjari allegedly offered to help her find employment. He subsequently arranged a rented room for her in Dongargaon, which falls under the jurisdiction of Hingna police station.

According to the complaint, the alleged sexual assaults took place between April 11 and May 10, 2026. Wanjari allegedly threatened the woman and her son with death and repeatedly established physical relations with her against her will. He also allegedly warned her of dire consequences if she disclosed the incidents to anyone.

Following the woman's complaint, Hingna police registered a case against Wanjari under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
