Nagpur: Kalamna police have registered a case against a 19-year-old youth for allegedly sexually exploiting a minor girl on the promise of marriage. The girl, who was 17 at the time, gave birth to a baby girl at Daga Hospital in September.

According to police, the accused, a resident of Chikhali in Kalamna, had become acquainted with the girl and allegedly developed a relationship with her. He reportedly visited her home when no one else was present and repeatedly established physical relations with her despite knowing that she was a minor.

Police said the accused allegedly promised to marry the girl, following which she became pregnant. The couple reportedly underwent a marriage ceremony at Shitala Mata Temple on March 25, 2026.

On September 13, the girl delivered a baby girl at Daga Hospital. She was then 17 years, 10 months and six days old, according to police records.

The case came to light after the hospital authorities forwarded a medico-legal case (MLC) report to the police. Investigators subsequently recorded the minor's statement. Police said she did not approach the police station to lodge a complaint despite being called several times.

A police sub-inspector eventually registered a case based on the available information. Kalamna police have booked the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Further investigation is underway.
