Nagpur: Kalmana Police have registered a case against an unidentified truck driver in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 40-year-old cyclist in Nagpur.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 6 am on June 22, 2026, when Vilas Gulabchand Janware (40), a resident of Plot No. 343, Santosh Nagar, Ambedkar Marg, Nagasenvan, Yashodhara Nagar, was cycling to his workplace in Vardhman Nagar.
As he reached the beginning of the flyover leading towards Pardi, near Rivaj Lawn under the jurisdiction of Kalmana Police Station, an unidentified truck driver allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, hitting Janware’s bicycle from behind. The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident.
Janware sustained severe head injuries and was admitted to Mayo Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment and was declared dead by doctors on July 1, 2026.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Kalmana Police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
