Nagpur: A road rage incident in Nagpur’s Mankapur area turned violent after a group of seven to eight motorcycle riders allegedly chased, assaulted, and vandalised the car of an off duty police constable late at night. Police have identified all the accused, some of whom are minors.
According to Mankapur Police, an offence has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal intimidation, intentional insult, mischief, and voluntarily causing hurt.
Traffic Constable Attacked During Late-Night Drive
The complainant, Kunal Madhusudan Singh (35), a resident of Old Mankapur near Ranu School and attached to the MIDC Traffic Branch, stated that on June 28, 2026, around 10.30 pm, he was returning home from Jaripatka in his Hyundai Verna (MH-02-CL-6023) along with a female friend.
As he was driving up the Martin Nagar bridge approach road, a group of motorcycle riders allegedly rode in a zigzag manner in front of his car, obstructing his path. Singh reportedly honked, after which the bikers gave way and he proceeded towards Mankapur Chowk.
However, just before reaching the traffic signal, the bikers allegedly struck his car from behind. Apprehending trouble, Singh continued driving, but one of the accused, riding a Royal Enfield Bullet, allegedly intercepted his vehicle and was soon joined by the other riders.
Car Vandalised, Constable Injured
The accused allegedly abused Singh in obscene language and threatened to kill him for not stopping his car earlier. One of them reportedly struck the bonnet of the car with a stone and smashed the rear windshield, causing significant damage to the vehicle.
When Singh stepped out of the car, the group allegedly assaulted him with fists and kicks. One of the assailants also allegedly hit him on the neck and back with a stone, causing injuries.
The attackers fled after local residents gathered at the spot. Bystanders reportedly noted the registration number of one of the motorcycles, which became a key lead in the investigation.
Some Accused Are Minors
Confirming the development, Mankapur Police Inspector Harish Kalsekar said that all the accused have been identified.
“Some of the accused are minors. We traced them through CCTV footage and motorcycle registration numbers. However, the offences invoked are bailable. Further investigation is underway,” Kalsekar said.
Based on Singh’s complaint, Mankapur Police have registered a case against the identified accused and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
