Nagpur: Vendors on Sitabuldi Main Road have been warned against encroaching upon public roads, as Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has issued strict instructions that any goods placed outside shops or on roads will be seized. The directive came during his inspection of the traffic and encroachment situation on Sitabuldi Main Road on Wednesday, April 21.
Dr. Chaudhari also instructed officials to take immediate anti-encroachment action in the internal roads of Sitabuldi and Modi Galli numbers 1, 2, and 3. The inspection followed a joint anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Police on Sitabuldi Main Road, where nearly all hawkers were removed as per a gazette notification issued by the state government in April 2024. These hawkers have now been relocated to Maharajbagh Road.
The clearing of encroachments has allowed the NMC to create dedicated parking zones for two-wheelers and four-wheelers on both sides of Sitabuldi Main Road. Commissioner Dr. Chaudhari directed the NMC’s Traffic Department to install appropriate signage to guide motorists. He also instructed the Encroachment Department to act daily against vendors placing goods for sale outside their shops, contributing to traffic congestion.
During the inspection, Dr. Chaudhari was accompanied by DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak, Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, Additional Commissioner Ajay Charthanakar, Assistant Commissioner Harish Raut, Assistant Commissioner Snehalata Kumbhar, Executive Engineer Ravindra Bundhade, Deputy Engineer Rahul Deshmukh, Superintendent Sanjay Kamble, Bhaskar Malwe, and members of the Encroachment Removal and Enforcement Teams along with police personnel.
The commissioner and DCP Chandak jointly walked from Mahatma Gandhi Statue to Parekh Jewellers to personally assess the traffic flow and encroachment situation. The encroachment squad will now be stationed in the Sitabuldi market area daily from 12 noon to 10 pm.
DCP Chandak also issued instructions to traffic police to seize vehicles parked in ‘No Parking’ zones, in a bid to ease congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow.
Parking Arrangements on Sitabuldi Main Road:
Following the relocation of hawkers to Maharajbagh Road, the NMC has established new parking arrangements along Sitabuldi Main Road:
