Ganja Smugglers from Odisha, Mumbai Apprehended Near Nagpur Railway Station; 17.5 kg Ganja Seized

Nagpur: In a major action under the NDPS Act, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of Nagpur Police on Wednesday, May 21, apprehended four individuals, including two from Odisha and two from Mumbai, in possession of 17.54 kilograms of ganja worth ₹3.97 lakh. The operation was conducted near Gate No. 1 on the southern side of Nagpur Central Railway Station under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station.


The accused have been identified as Bishwanath Chaturbhuj Sahu (25) – Resident of Pannokimal village, Taruba Police Station limits, Subarnapur district, Odisha, Vishwajeet Vinod Chaudhary (23) – Resident of Kalamboli LIG Sector 1, Flat No. 208, Shri Sadguru Krupa Apartment, Panvel, Navi Mumbai, Simadri Gariba Kalsaye (23) – Resident of Goyantala, near Government U.G.H.S. School, Balangir district, Odisha and Suraj Mehilal Navik (25) from Kalamboli, Panvel, Raigad district.


The SSB team also seized 17.540 kilograms of ganja, three mobile phones and ₹1,700 in cash. The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹3,97,500.

The suspects were caught red-handed between 8:15 PM on May 20 and 1:40 AM on May 21 during routine patrolling. A case has been registered at Sitabuldi Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act (Crime No. 412/2025).


The operation was led by PI Omprakash Sontakke of the Social Security Branch, with support from HCs Prakash, Laxman, and Ajay, PCs Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Kunal Masram, Nitin, and WPC Punam Shende.


Police investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended destination of the contraband.
