Nagpur: In a large-scale crackdown against traffic rule violators, the Nagpur Traffic Police launched a special enforcement drive targeting autos and e-rickshaws on May 20, 2025. The operation resulted in action against 493 vehicles, of which 448 autos and e-rickshaws were detained, and fines totaling ₹2.83 lakh were collected.
The drive was carried out across all major traffic zones under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate. The highest number of actions were taken in the Cotton Market zone, where 63 vehicles were penalized and 58 were detained, collecting fines amounting to ₹38,700. Sonegaon zone followed with 61 vehicles booked, 44 detained, and ₹42,800 collected in fines. In Lakadganj, 56 vehicles were penalized and an equal number were detained, with fines totaling ₹37,700. The Ajni zone saw action against 52 vehicles, with 50 detentions and ₹32,600 in fines, while in the Sitabuldi zone, 40 vehicles were booked, all of which were detained, and fines of ₹33,400 were collected.
Other zones also witnessed significant enforcement: Sadar (46 vehicles penalized, 41 detained, ₹25,700 in fines), MIDC (42 vehicles penalized and detained, ₹17,600 in fines), Sakkardara (41 penalized, 35 detained, ₹16,400), Indora (44 penalized, 34 detained, ₹19,100), and Kamptee (48 penalized and detained, ₹19,300).
As part of the follow-up, all detained drivers were summoned to the Traffic Children’s Park in Dharampeth between 11 AM and 1 PM on May 21. There, they were counseled on key safety guidelines, including avoiding signal jumping, refraining from parking in no-parking zones or on road corners, not blocking intersections, avoiding overloading passengers, and strictly abstaining from driving under the influence. Each driver was asked to sign a written undertaking promising compliance with traffic rules in the future.
Officials stated that this special enforcement drive will continue in the coming days, with stricter actions planned against repeat offenders. The Traffic Police have appealed to all auto and e-rickshaw drivers to follow traffic regulations and cooperate in maintaining road safety across the city.
