Mumbai, January 22: The Maharashtra government has officially announced the reservation of mayoral posts for 29 municipal corporations across the state. The draw of lots was conducted under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal and will remain effective for the next two-and-a-half years. Notably, 15 out of the 29 municipal corporations will have women mayors under various reservation categories.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Dr. K. H. Govindrajan, was present during the draw. As per reservation norms, one mayoral post has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. However, in accordance with existing rules, no post is reserved for Scheduled Tribe (Women) in this cycle.
Category-Wise Reservation Details
Among the 29 municipal corporations, three mayoral posts have been reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, of which two are reserved for Scheduled Caste (Women).
Additionally, eight mayoral posts have been reserved for the Backward Class of Citizens (BCC), including four posts for Backward Class (Women).
From the remaining municipal corporations, nine mayoral posts have been reserved for General (Women), while eight posts fall under the General (Open) category.
