Nagpur: Ganeshpeth Police have registered a case against Maharashtra National Congress Party (NCP) State President Shivraj Dadasaheb More and 18 other party office-bearers and workers for allegedly violating prohibitory orders and obstructing police during a protest outside Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence in Nagpur.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on August 3, 2026, between 1:30 pm and 1:50 pm near North Park Chowk Road under the jurisdiction of Ganeshpeth Police Station. The complaint was lodged by Police Constable Shyam Ashok Khapre (36), who was deployed for bandobast duty at the spot.

Police stated that Shivraj More, along with 18 identified supporters and around 50 to 60 other protesters, staged a demonstration under his leadership against the Centre’s decision permitting the blending of ethanol with petrol. The protesters had gathered outside Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence at Wada Mahal while raising slogans.

Despite police deployment and barricades, the protesters allegedly climbed over the barricades, ignored repeated police instructions, and attempted to continue the agitation, thereby obstructing police personnel from discharging their official duties. Police also alleged that the gathering was held without obtaining prior permission from the authorities and in violation of prohibitory orders issued by senior officials.

Based on the complaint, Ganeshpeth Police registered a case under Sections 189(2), 223 and 224 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act against Shivraj More, 18 other named accused, and several unidentified protesters.

Further investigation is underway.
