Nagpur: Tahsil Police have registered a case against six organisers of a sandal procession for allegedly violating police prohibitory orders and endangering public safety during the 104th annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Rahmat Ali in Nagpur.

The incident occurred at around 4.50 pm on July 14, 2026, near Sevasadan Square under the jurisdiction of Tahsil Police Station.

The accused have been identified as Wasim Khan, Latif Khan, Naved Bhai (Vice-President of Naujawan Sadar Committee, Nagpur), Gani Khan, Ayan Khan, and Aman Khan.

According to police, the organisers allegedly threw currency notes from a moving vehicle and while walking during the sandal procession. The act reportedly attracted a large number of people who rushed to collect the money, resulting in crowding, traffic obstruction, and a potential threat to public safety.

The FIR states that police personnel repeatedly directed the organisers to stop throwing money. They were also instructed to get down from the vehicle as low-hanging overhead electricity wires posed a serious risk of electrocution. However, despite repeated warnings, the organisers allegedly failed to comply with the instructions.

Police further alleged that the accused violated prohibitory orders issued by the Nagpur Police Commissioner under Section 37(1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, leading to the registration of the offence.

The complaint was lodged by Police Constable Anil Madavi of Tahsil Police Station. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act along with Sections 125 and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector Mahendra Wasnik.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged violations during the religious procession.
