Nagpur: Panic gripped Nagpur’s Wathoda area after two unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the residence of Congress corporator Shubham Motghare in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to preliminary information, the two unidentified men targeted Motghare’s house and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the spot. The gunfire shattered the windowpanes of the house. Fortunately, Motghare and his family members, who were present at the time, escaped unhurt.
The sudden sound of gunshots triggered panic among the family and residents in the area. After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and inspected the crime scene. Investigators have launched a probe to identify the assailants and ascertain the motive behind the firing.
Several police teams have been deployed to trace the accused, with searches and investigations being carried out at different locations.
The incident came to light prominently on Wednesday morning, following which leaders from various political parties visited Motghare’s residence and enquired about his well-being. The leaders condemned the firing and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil also visited the spot on Wednesday morning and took stock of the situation. He reviewed the investigation with senior police officials and directed them to intensify efforts to trace the accused.
Police have assured that the suspects will be arrested soon. Investigators are now working to establish the motive behind the attack and identify anyone else involved in the incident.
