Nagpur: With Eid-e-Milad and other upcoming festivals such as Raksha Bandhan, Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav approaching, Nagpur Police conducted a riot-control mock drill and route march in the Sakkardara and Ajni areas on Wednesday to assess preparedness for maintaining law and order.

The joint riot-control exercise was conducted on the directions of the Nagpur Police Commissioner and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Rashmita Rao N.

The drill was conducted in the presence of the Assistant Commissioners of Police of the Sakkardara and Ajni divisions. All senior police inspectors from Zone 4 participated, along with one police officer and 10 personnel from each police station. Additionally, 30 home guards were deployed by the control room for Eid security arrangements.

The participating personnel were equipped with lathis, helmets, shields, gas guns, shells and other riot-control equipment.

The mock drill began at 6 pm and concluded at 6.20 pm.

Route March Through Sakkardara and Nandanvan

Following the drill, police conducted a route march through areas under the Sakkardara and Nandanvan police station jurisdictions on the orders of the DCP, Zone 4.

The march began at 6.30 pm from the Tajbag Dargah area and passed through Yasin Plot, Shahenshah Chowk, Azad Colony, Chhoti Masjid and the area in front of Panchvati Ashram under Nandanvan Police Station jurisdiction. The march proceeded through Buland Gate and concluded at 7.10 pm at the Bada Tajbag Shopping Complex.

A total of 131 police personnel and home guards participated in the drill and route march. The deployment included one DCP, two ACPs, six senior police inspectors, 12 police sub-inspectors, 80 male and female police personnel, and 30 male and female home guards.

Police said the exercise was aimed at ensuring preparedness for maintaining law and order during the upcoming festivals, creating a sense of security among citizens and assessing the force’s ability to respond effectively to any untoward situation.
