Nagpur: Beltarodi Police in Nagpur have registered a culpable homicide case against a builder following the death of a 56-year-old man who allegedly fell into an unsecured underground water tank in a residential complex.
According to police, between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM on April 28, 2026, Vilas Shalikrao Katare (56), a resident of Flat No. 503, Singapore City, Europia 01, Gotal Panjari, Nagpur, was found unconscious inside an underground cement water tank in the residential premises.
Residents rushed him to Neuron Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on April 30, 2026, during treatment.
Initially, Beltarodi Police registered an accidental death case. During the investigation, and based on the statement given by the deceased’s daughter Snehal Vilas Katare (28), police found alleged negligence on the part of builder Sanju Jaiswal.
The complaint stated that the builder had failed to provide adequate safety measures around the water tank, including a protective wall, safety net, or grill. It is alleged that the deceased had gone near the tank to check whether it contained water, lost balance, and fell inside, suffering fatal injuries.
Based on the findings, Police Sub-Inspector Poonam Khillare registered a case against the builder under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death due to negligence.
Further investigation is in progress.
