Nagpur: A bomb threat email received around 8 am on Tuesday, July 22, sparked panic at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur, prompting an immediate response from airport security and police teams. The email claimed that an explosive device had been placed inside a cigarette packet on the airport premises.
Acting swiftly, airport authorities alerted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Nagpur Police. A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with sniffer dog units, was deployed to conduct a thorough search of the terminal building, passenger waiting areas, baggage zones, and surrounding premises.
Security personnel scanned the entire airport complex based on the specific threat mentioned in the email. However, after a detailed inspection, no suspicious object or explosive material was found. Authorities have confirmed that the bomb threat appears to be a hoax.
Despite the scare, flight operations remained largely unaffected, with only minimal delays reported. Airport security has been further tightened as a precautionary measure.
Police are now investigating the source of the email and are in the process of registering an offence under relevant sections related to criminal intimidation and public mischief. Cyber experts have been roped in to trace the origin of the email.
Senior officials from Nagpur Police and airport management continue to monitor the situation closely.
