Nagpur: A three-year-long love affair took a violent turn on Monday, July 21, afternoon after a 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend multiple times before attempting suicide at a lodge in Dahegaon Rangari, under Khaparkheda police station limits.
The shocking incident occurred between 3 pm and 4 pm at Maharaja Lodge, triggering panic in the area. Both the victim and the accused were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Ashwajeet Dashrath Patil (25), a resident of Waki village. The 23-year-old woman, also from the same village, had been in a relationship with Patil for the past three years. The couple had reportedly made a mutual promise to marry.
Tensions escalated recently after the woman’s family arranged her marriage to someone else. Upon learning about this, Ashwajeet requested to meet her one last time.
On Monday, the duo checked into Maharaja Lodge. Inside the room, a heated argument broke out when Patil allegedly insisted she cancel the arranged marriage and marry him instead. In a fit of rage, he pulled out a vegetable knife concealed in his pocket and stabbed her in the stomach, chest, and arm.
Despite suffering serious injuries, the woman managed to flee the room and cry for help. Meanwhile, Ashwajeet attempted suicide by slitting his wrist. Hearing her screams, lodge staff rushed to their aid and alerted the police.
Khaparkheda police reached the scene, recovered the weapon used in the crime, and conducted a panchnama. A formal case is being registered, and efforts are underway to record the statements of both individuals.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the violent incident.
