Nagpur: A family had a miraculous escape after unidentified miscreants allegedly torched two motorcycles parked outside their home in Isasani, near Nagpur, triggering a massive fire that engulfed the house late Tuesday night. In a desperate bid to survive, family members hid inside a toilet as flames spread through the residence.
According to a complaint lodged with MIDC Police Station, complainant Dattatraya Shivaji Gaikwad and his family were asleep when they were awakened by thick smoke and flames inside their home. Realising the danger, the family rushed into a toilet and locked themselves inside to protect themselves from the fire.
The blaze is believed to have started after unidentified miscreants set two motorcycles on fire. The flames quickly spread to the nearby house, causing extensive damage to property. Family members also alleged that the accused hurled bricks at the house during the incident, adding to the terror.
Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and helped douse the flames before the fire could spread further. No casualties were reported, though the house suffered significant damage.
A complaint has been registered at MIDC Police Station, and an investigation is underway. According to police sources, the incident appears to be linked to a local rivalry. Police have identified some suspects and are probing their possible involvement in the case.
